International Women´s Day and Mattel

It´s funny the way some companies advertise their products these days.

Even though, in my opinion, some of them have been part of our problems for a long time, they are now producing cool videos which might make us forget how dangerous the ideas they usually instil in our minds are…

They´re cute, aren´t they?

The video is part of a campaign Mattel launched to celebrate their 60th anniversary and International Women´s Day in 2018. The initiative was supposed to aim at making girls think “they can be anything”.

However, after visiting their website, and having a look at the images in it, my gut feeling was that I won´t never ever be pretty, smart and successful enough…

Will that make me feel miserable? No problem!!! I guess there are plenty of companies which will be eager to make me feel better by selling me something I don´need…

Remember, to achieve gender equality, we must first tackle our unconscious biases, but, be careful, because the messages some companies are conveying in their lovely ads may consciously help create those unconciuous biases… You never know…
